Senior Product Designer: Observability

At Dash0 we're looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our team in creating a great Observability tool.

Full-time · Remote (within EU)

About the job

As a Senior Product Designer, you play a critical role in driving the success of our product. You drive the design process, providing prototypes with which to validate solutions, and high-quality designs for your colleagues to implement.

You drive the design process, providing prototypes with which to validate solutions, and high-quality designs for your colleagues to implement.

You take on mid-sized projects with non-trivial requirements in terms of domain-knowledge depth independently and with limited need of support from colleagues.

You consider the user experience holistically, in a way that includes each and every touch point and interactions of the end user with Dash0. Your designs are by far not limited to the product UI. Every touch point between the end user and Dash0, the company, is something you can and should influence: processes, command-line tools, Kubernetes operators, it’s all part of the product experience.

You continuously test ideas with end users, making it a high-priority fixture of your schedule.

You closely work with your product management colleagues to align the solutions with the needs of the business.

You participate with product managers and engineers in the discovery of problems worth solving.

You accompany the delivery of the solution, supporting your engineering and product manager colleagues.

Together with your product manager and engineer colleagues, you collect and evaluate evidence about the effectiveness of the solutions delivered.

At Dash0, we value outcomes, not output. Your work is evaluated based on its success and value to the end users and the business.

About you

Soft skills:

  • Learning attitude towards technical topics: You are eager to understand the domain you design around, including complex technical aspects

  • Communication and collaboration: You have strong communication skills needed to articulate design vision and rationale to stakeholders, including product teams and executives. You actively collaborate with your peers, exchanging ideas and know-how, and keep the team up-to-date with the status of the initiatives you work on.

  • Ownership: You proactively lead your work from start to finish, balancing priorities and managing stakeholders. You know where an initiative stands in terms of execution, you ensure what is implemented fulfils the design criteria and is a satisfactory solution for end users.

  • Problem solving: You have advanced problem-solving skills to tackle complex design challenges.

  • Deliberate innovation: You know when to try out innovative solutions, and when to pragmatically use existing patterns that are proven to work.

  • Adaptability: You are able to adapt design strategies based on feedback and evolving user data.

  • Empathy: You have high level of empathy to understand user needs and behaviours, ensuring designs enhance user satisfaction.

Hard skills:

  • User Experience (UX) Design: You have expertise in creating intuitive, engaging user experiences for software products.

  • User Interface (UI) Design: You are proficient in crafting visually appealing interfaces that align with brand and user expectations.

  • Prototyping and Wireframing: You are skilled in prototyping and wireframing tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD to develop and test designs effectively. Ideally, you are already using AI tools to wireframe ideas and get early feedback on flow and information hierarchy.

  • User Research: You have a strong ability in conducting and interpreting user research, usability testing, and market analysis to guide design decisions.

  • Accessibility and Inclusion: You have knowledge of best practices in accessibility and inclusive design to create products usable by everyone.

As an ideal candidate, you also have:

  • Observability domain knowledge: you understand how end users consume OpenTelemetry and Prometheus data, what use-cases they need to solve, how the data is interpreted, how signals are correlated, and have an understanding of how each signal works, albeit the latter not necessarily at the technical level an engineer would have.

However, as long as you have previous experience in designing developer tools, and have the attitude for learning technical domains listed in the soft skills, as Dash0 we are pretty good at teaching the observability domain.
